Population projections for the Village of Peotone were prepared using several methods. First, a straight-line projection was made utilizing 1990 census data population of 2,947. The rate of Peotone population growth of 1.89% average compound growth per year, from 1950 to 1990, was projected to the year 2020. This method projects a population of 5,344 for the Village in the year 2020, an 81% increase from 1990 (Table 8).

In the third draft of the Land Use Plan for Eastern Will County, the Northeastern Illinois Planning commission (NIPC) projected the population for the Village of Peotone, without the proposed third airport. This estimate that the current trends of decentralization of population would continue, moderated by strategic policies, in the eastern Will County area. This estimate further assumed that the future need for additional aviation capacity would be provided by O'Hare and Midway airports. NIPC projected a population of 6,496 for the Village of Peotone by the year 2020, a 120% increase over the 1990 level of 2,947. Households are projected to increase by 130% from 1990 to 2020 (Table 9).

Thus, extensive growth is projected for the Village of Peotone. Population growth rates range from 120% based on NIPC estimates, to 81% based on straight-line projection.
