Peotone, Illinois, is a small, rural community conveniently nestled in Will County just south of Chicago, Peotone is located between Interstate 57 and Illinois Rte 50. We are a community filled with history, culture and expectation as we move forward as a community. Many of our 4,142 residents enjoy the tranquility of a country life-style. The village streets are wide, curbed, and shaded with old trees of all varieties. Homes range from many gorgeous historic turn-of-the-century homes to beautiful new contemporary dwellings. Scholastic, athletic, and cultural programs provide growth opportunities for our children.
Peotone welcomes growth in business and general economic development. Our work force is well educated with a strong work ethic. With our village bordered on two sides by the I-57 interchange and a four lane state highway, movement of raw materials and product is fuel and time efficient.

Administration
Village Administration
The Village of Peotone operates under the Administrator form of government. The Administrator is appointed by the Village President with the advice and consent of the Board of Trustees. The Village Administrator is the Chief Administrative Officer of the Village. The Administrator is responsible for all day to day operations of the village. In addition, the Administrator attends all meeting of the Village Board, supervises the preparation of the annual budget, keeps the Board informed of the current fiscal condition of the village, advises the Board of policy issues requiring review, and serves as the representative of the Village Authorities in the transaction of village business.
The Treasurer is appointed by the Village President with the advice and consent of the Board of Trustees. The Treasurer is the custodian of all funds belonging to the village. The Treasurer keeps records of revenues and issues monies on bills approved by the Village Board. The Treasurer is also responsible for the investment of funds in accordance with state law. In Peotone, some specific duties of the Treasurer include accounting, payroll, accounts payable and receivable, and many of the responsibilities of a Finance Director found in larger communities.

The village is governed by a Village President and a six member Board of Trustees. The Village President serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the village. The Board of Trustees serves as the legislative branch of the village. The Village President and each Trustee are elected at large and serve four year staggered terms.

The Village Clerk is the official keeper of records for the village. The Clerk also attends meetings of the Village Board and maintains minutes of the meetings. The Clerk is also responsible for the publication and codification of ordinances, the administration of FIOA requests, and the administration and recording of all licenses and permits issued by the Village Authorities. The Clerk is also the Local Election Official, and is responsible for in-person absentee voting. The Clerk is elected at-large to a four year term.

The Peotone Police Department has implemented the following community policing strategies:
Community policing refers a partnership between the police and the people they serve, designed to improve the quality of life. It is expected that the police and citizens of the community will work together to address issues of crime and social disorganization. Officers are urged to get close to the citizens of the community and understand their needs, habits and wishes. Community members are expected to take a proactive role in helping the police and other government entities set and implement community-oriented policing.
