The Village of Peotone operates under the Administrator form of government. The Administrator is appointed by the Village President with the advice and consent of the Board of Trustees. The Village Administrator is the Chief Administrative Officer of the Village. The Administrator is responsible for all day to day operations of the village. In addition, the Administrator attends all meeting of the Village Board, supervises the preparation of the annual budget, keeps the Board informed of the current fiscal condition of the village, advises the Board of policy issues requiring review, and serves as the representative of the Village Authorities in the transaction of village business.
The Treasurer is appointed by the Village President with the advice and consent of the Board of Trustees. The Treasurer is the custodian of all funds belonging to the village. The Treasurer keeps records of revenues and issues monies on bills approved by the Village Board. The Treasurer is also responsible for the investment of funds in accordance with state law. In Peotone, some specific duties of the Treasurer include accounting, payroll, accounts payable and receivable, and many of the responsibilities of a Finance Director found in larger communities.
The Collector is appointed by the Village President with the advice and consent of the Board of Trustees. The Collector receives municipal revenue from sources other than taxes (ex: water/sewer revenue, vehicle stickers, etc.) and pays it over to the Treasurer. Some specific duties include the administration of utility billing, vehicle stickers, and village licenses and registrations. The collector also processes the daily receipts and maintains records of daily transactions.
